Instructions on How to Use the Gas Vaporizer for Oxalic Accid
Our gas vaporizer is very practical and easy to use. To make your beginnings even easier, we have prepared a short user manual.
- Screw the blow torch onto the gas cartridge, then attach the blow torch onto the vaporizer and fix it with the enclosed clip.
- Prepare the oxalic acid: use the enclosed spoon to measure out about 1 – 2g oxalic acid into each cap.
- Turn the vaporizer upside down and attach the cap with oxalic acid. At this point, the oxalic acid is still in the cool cap, so it is not sublimating yet.
- Turn the vaporizer back into the correct position. This makes the oxalic acid powder fall into the vaporizer. If the vaporizer is already hot, the sublimation will begin at once and white smoke will be released from the vaporizer.
- Insert the vaporizer into the entrance of the beehive to allow the smoke of sublimated oxalic acid to enter the hive. The sublimation process is completed in about 30 – 45 seconds.

Dosage of Oxalic Acid
Recommended is an amount of 1-2g of oxalic acid per bee family, depending on the recommendation of the veterinarian or experienced beekeeper.
There is also a dosing spoon in the set of the oxalic acid vaporizer. Approximately 1/3 of the spoon contains about 1.5g of oxalic acid as shown in the picture below.
You pour the contents into the provided caps, and then you can start with the sublimation process.
For a simpler dosage, you can also use oxalic acid tablets.
CAUTION! Hot!
The Vaporizer gets very hot during heating. Do not touch it without suitable Protective Gloves!
Importance of Protective Equipment for Gas Sublimation
When using a gas sublimator for oxalic acid treatment, it is crucial to prioritize safety and protect yourself with appropriate respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE). The following equipment is essential for ensuring your well-being during the sublimation process:
1. Respiratory Protection: The inhalation of oxalic acid vapors can be harmful to your lungs. Wearing a mask or respirator specifically designed for chemical fumes and particulate matter is vital. Look for masks with a high filtration efficiency, such as those labeled N95 or higher, to effectively block out harmful particles. Properly fitted masks will prevent the inhalation of oxalic acid vapors, safeguarding your respiratory system.
2. Eye Protection: Eye protection is crucial to shield your eyes from potential splashes or accidental contact with oxalic acid. Wearing goggles or safety glasses with side shields will provide a barrier, preventing any direct contact and minimizing the risk of eye irritation or injury.
3. Hand Protection: As oxalic acid can be corrosive to the skin, it is important to wear chemical-resistant gloves during the sublimation process. Opt for gloves made from materials such as nitrile or neoprene, which offer excellent resistance to chemicals. These gloves provide a protective barrier, reducing the risk of skin irritation or burns.
Remember, the choice of PPE should be based on the specific hazards associated with oxalic acid sublimation and the recommendations provided by safety guidelines or regulatory agencies in your region. Always follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the protective equipment to ensure proper usage and protection.
Prioritizing your safety by using appropriate respiratory protection, goggles, and gloves during gas sublimation demonstrates your commitment to responsible beekeeping practices. By taking these necessary precautions, you can mitigate potential risks and perform the treatment process with confidence, ensuring both your well-being and the health of your bees.
